The weather was great, although a bit hot for early October. We had 21 teams and lots of Silent Auction items. Our lunch was provided by Firehouse Subs and after golf snacks was provided by Tiki Taco Truck. We netted over $30,000 for the clients of LCKS.

Our residents have been sheltering in place for months. They were so appreciative when they found out they would be having concert. *  Our Facebook page is gathering many likes and much attention.  Please visit our page @friendsandfamilyoflcks as often as you can and "LIKE" and "SHARE"
 
*  The Website, https://www.friendsandfamilyoflcks.org, is kept up-to-date.    Check it out and see the pictures of our activities and the clients. 
 
*  Our first annual Golf tournament was a huge success.  Many thanks to the Golf committee:  Jim Wise and Jay Terry (co-chairs), Nancy and Jack Donahue, Doug and Kathy Euston,  Mike Fraser, Jim Lynde, Ray Rollins, & Mike and CeCe Stabler, and Machele Haskin.
The net proceeds were over $24,000. The event was sold out. 
We are looking forward to the event in 2020 on June 22 at the Lionsgate Golf Course. 
 
 
*  The Food Pantry has provided over 2.7 tons of food to Life Center group homes.  The pantry helps offset rising food costs while maintaining the actual cost to residents of $150/month. 
 
 Many thanks to the Mazuma Credit Union on 135th and Black Bob, Burlingame & Mock Vision Associates,  and Associated Wholesale Grocers for conducting three very successful food drives for the wonderful food drive they held for our pantry in 2019.    
 
*  Our new Recreation Committee planned three activities this year - the Tomahawk Ridge Pool Party this summer,  a hayride this fall, and worked with the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection to allow every resident to receive a ticket to the Christmas At Resurrection performance.   
 
*  We have a new Client Need Fund Committee   This committee will be reviewing the needs of clients who do not have "friend or family" support.  Items like bed linens, bath towels, backpacks, clothing, furniture, etc. will be purchased for those individuals who are especially in need because they lack the financial support to purchase these items themselves.  

* Angel Tree 2019 was a complete success.  This is the second annual Angel Tree project for FFLCKS.  The Melange Ballroom and FFLCKS partnered to provide over 40 residential clients with Christmas gifts.  These individuals would not otherwise have received a gift during the holidays. 
 
*  The restaurant fundraiser at Culvers, Panera and Jason's Deli were successful.   We will continue to work with restaurants who have these fundraising programs in 2020 and hope that participation grows annually.   
 
*  The Home Liaison Program continues to develop.   Our 2020 budget allows us to increase the amount of funding given per quarter for group home activities.  The home liaisons have done a great job connecting the residents and families in their respective group homes. 
 
*  The Friends and Family organization sponsored  the movie and resource fair, "Intelligent Lives" this fall.  200+  people attended with over 2 dozen community organization booths.  

*  Associated Wholesale Grocers presented a $3,000 check to FFLCKS to be used  client  needs - food, bus fare, kitchen equipment, etc. 
 
*  Staff Recognition continues on a quarterly basis throughout the year.  Gifts of $50 per recipient are given in recognition of their efforts to improve the lives of our loved ones.  
 
*   The FFLCKS works with Families for KanCare Reform to learn more about how we can be effective advocates at the state level.  Here is the latest information from Families for KanCare Reform with a way for us  to influence state policy makers...

If the Federal government shut down continues, food stamp allocations will not be available as of March 1.
As of November 2018,our organization opened a food pantry with monetary and food donations from families and friends.  Our goal was to help offset the rising cost of groceries so house managers (lead staff) could continue to purchase fresh produce, high quality meats, etc.  We have been able to spend approximately $10/resident/month for additional food since November.
Should the shutdown continue, our organization's pantry cannot afford to pay the monthly fee for food for all LCKS recipients on food stamps.  However, our pantry committee is working proactively to find food sources for those individuals who have no family or legal guardian who is responsible for the care of that individual. 
We are all assessed $150/month for food for each of our loved ones living in a LCKS group home.  Many of our residents use food stamps to help with that fee.  The $150/month has not increased for 10 years.
If you are a family member or guardian who is responsible for the care of your loved one, your invoice will include the full $150 for food  For example, our daughter receives food stamps to help cover her food cost each month.  Between her resources and ours, we will be paying the full amount ($150) for her food each month as of March 1.

The residents love helping with the pantry! They make sure each bag and box has the right items, packed them and load up the shelves. They work really hard, and have a great time!
